YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND
A game created for DESMA 157: Game Design, inspired about my relationship with my parents and how it deteriorated after they found out I was dating a girl. It's a story of a generational and religious gap with no real winners; just a family that can no longer fit together, no matter how much either side wants it to.
This is communicated through a spin on the classic game of battleship; “winning” means taking apart the opposing side’s values and health. In the end, there will be only one side with their life intact, and all the pieces of the opposing side in their hands.
Over 4 weeks I concepted the game and its rules to match the overarching narrative. I illustrated the characters and pieces, and went through countless drafts of writing for the cards and rulebook. Finally, I fabricated the board by laser-cutting and engraving white acrylic. Pieces can be magnetically attached to the board.
